NCW values self-awareness as a crucial component of professional development for our clinicians. As therapists, it is important to engage in ongoing exploration of our own history, behaviors, relationship patterns, emotional triggers, limitations, and life experiences. This increases our ability to connect with vulnerable client experiences without imposing our own "unfinished" business on them. All clinicians are expected to engage in regular self-reflection and seek support when necessary.

NCW values self-care as an essential aspect of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Self-care is any process, routine, or practice that acknowledges and addresses our personal needs. This includes engaging in coping skills and setting professional boundaries. All team members are expected to prioritize self-care and communicate their needs to their supervisor when necessary.

NCW values transparency in all interactions as a way to promote authenticity and personal/professional growth. This includes being honest and forthcoming about our intentions, limitations, and expertise with clients and colleagues. All team members are expected to prioritize transparency and seek support when necessary.

NCW values professional development as an ongoing process that requires both formal and informal training. Despite our best efforts towards self-awareness, we must acknowledge and address the limitations of our experiences through professional development. All clinicians are expected to engage in regular training opportunities and stay up to date on the latest evidence-based research.

Clinicians at NCW are responsible for considering each client's identity and understanding thereof in the therapeutic space. This includes contextualizing relevant aspects of their cultural identities in treatment, treatment planning, and any form of professional development that aids in this goal. All team members are expected to prioritize cultural humility and recognize the impact of power and privilege in the therapeutic relationship.

NCW values social justice and advocacy as a means to address systemic oppression, discrimination, and inequality in mental health. All team members are expected to recognize the ways in which mental health intersects with broader societal issues and work towards promoting social change. This includes advocating for clients, increasing access to mental health services for marginalized populations, and challenging oppressive systems when possible.
